TRINITY COLLEGE ORCHESTRA |
TRINITY ORCHESTRA …perform the music of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon at the Royal Theatre on the 7th July.
Trinity Orchestra has just announced three national dates where they will play the music of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon this summer. Trinity Orchestrais an entirely student-run society that brings together some of the most talented young musicians in Ireland, all of whom are currently students or staff in Trinity College Dublin. The players are from various disciplines within the college but are brought together by their love and aptitude for music. The society performs two major classical concerts per year in prestigious Dublin venues such as Christchurch Cathedral, along with at least one classical tour annually. They’ve also played internationally in Berlin and most recently in London. Trinity Orchestra’s more recent tradition of arranging popular music was originally established so as to provide society members with a new opportunity to be creative, making alternative use of the orchestral sound. However, the interest surrounding performances of Daft Punk’s Discovery, Radiohead, Sigur Rós, Arcade Fire and Stevie Wonder has brought the orchestra to new heights of success. Following celebrated Main Stage appearances at last year’s Forbidden Fruit and Electric Picnic Festivals, Trinity Orchestra’s introduction of Pink Floyd’s 70s progressive rock album The Dark Side of the Moon incorporating a full orchestra, singers and band has been widely praised . With rave reviews from such publications as State Magazine - “Nothing short of stunning” - and the University Times – “Another triumphant performance to add to the Orchestra’s growing canon” – the performance has had a huge impact on Dublin and London audiences. Now, Trinity Orchestra takes their largest and loudest production to Irish audiences in Limerick, Killarney and Castlebar. This performance of The Dark Side of the Moon is the culmination of countless hours of work and rehearsal. Special thanks go to James O'Leary for arranging and organising the music and band musicians. This very special Orchestral performance takes to the stage at the Royal Theatre, Castlebar on Saturday 7th July.
