Michael Winslow, multi-talented comedian best known for his role as Sgt. Larvelle in the Police Academy series of movies is bringing his hilarious show to the Royal Theatre, Castlebar on Thursday 26th July.  The American actor and comedian is billed as the “Man of 10,000 Sound Effects” for his uncanning ability to make realistic sound effects using only his voice.  Barking dogs, squishing soggy sneakers, spine tingling scratches from a chalkboard, radio noises, cell phones, and so much more!
 
Where kids today will immerse themselves in their Wii's and DS's, Winslow spent most of his childhood creating imaginary friends - 'cats, dogs, trucks, anything that would keep me occupied for the moment.”  He spent more time in the principal’s office than in class!
After a stunning rendition of Jimi Hendrix's 'Purple Haze' during his first post-college performance, where he wasn't even the main act but managed to earn himself a standing ovation, from then on, Michael was to be an entertainer!
So he headed for LA where following a brief stint of homelessness, he finally got his big chance.
Director Hugh Wilson and producer Paul Manslanski came to see him perform at Long Beach Theater. Needless to say, they were blown away! They immediately wrote him into the script of the unforgettable “Police Academy I through VII” ….the rest, as they say, is history.

 
A man with a special talent that made “families” laugh. Michael was also heard, but not seen, when he gave the voice to Stripe, the evil little creature, in another Hit Movie “Gremlins”.  He also did voice-overs for Disney and Universal Studios in such rides as “Back to the Future and Terminator”.
 
Michael continues to perform stand-up comedy around the globe along with debuting his own iPhone and iPod Touch apps in 2010, bringing his sound effects and comedy to a mobile platform. ThatsKungFu generates Winslow's kung fu fighting sounds when the device is swung in a fighting motion. NoizeyMan, regarded as the 'World's Noiziest App', contains video, ringtones, sound effects, and mini games, all created by Michael Winslow.
